I recently heard a rumor that if you take some acetone and rub it on the black paint on your emblems that you can make your emblems all silver. is there any truth to this, does it work? has anyone done it? anyprobelms that can arise from applying acetone to the emblems? and yes i know that i need to tape and paper around the emblems before i go off squirting acetone on em'. Any answers or tips would be greatly apprciated.
Thanks alot
I think it will help you. I have used Acetone a few times, and it does work on your emblems. Then you can polish and buff the emblems to make them shine...
I got a set of F150XLT/Triton V8 Emblems off of Ebay for about 25 bucks. I took the rear emblem off and then cleaned up the residue, there are two prongs holding the rear emblem in place so there are those two holes. There is also a third hole right in the middle of the emblem. Once I put the side badge on the tailgate, I acetoned all three of them. If you go slow on the taping (hint: use blue painter's masking tape and then tape paper towels all around the badge so any splash wont ruin your paint) you can get an emblem done in about 30-45 minutes. Use lots of qtips and paper towels. When you think you have all of the paint off, use a qtip with acetone and go over every spot, if it comes off white, you are good to go. I have to say, I love the way my truck looks now with three acetoned emblems, haven't seen another on here in the Bay area.
