I have a 2006 6.0 that I bought new, and am now re-working it to give to one of my grandsons. I'm looking at a 2016 or a 2017 6.7 and not familiar with this re-gen thing. Is it aggravating? Cause any problems in heavy traffic? Not happy with what little I read.
Just follow the owner's manual for all service and maintenance items.
The DPF and regen process is designed to run behind the scenes and almost unnoticed by the driver. With proper maintenance, you shouldn't have too many issues. Change the oil when the truck tells you, check the coolant when it tells you, fill the DEF when it tells you.... stuff like that. It will pretty much tell you when most maintenance items need to be addressed.
Overall the reliability of the 6.7L has been pretty impressive.
If all you do is short, low speed trips then you'll eventually run into some annoyances but the truck will inform you such as "drive to clean" which means go for a drive until it's happy. If you usually get it to operating temperature, drive highway speeds and/or tow, then you'll be happy with the 2016 6.7L upgrade. I can't say much about the 2017 since those aren't in owners hands yet but it's going to be a nice upgrade if you can wait for it. Don't let regeneration stop your decision to get one of these trucks. It exists on all modern diesels and is here to stay until someone invents something better. Also, DEF is a none issue as well.
TO be honest, I would wait for the 2017's... There are a host of neat upgrades coming. And if you don't like the price or those tech. goodies coming, then the 2016's will or should have good incentives on them.
