Can a starter cause a knocking sound?
My, until now, trustworthy B2 has taken to having starter trouble, namely sticking in the engaged position and free wheeling with the engine causing a grinding sound, bad I know but it releases within 20-30 seconds (less when smacked with a hammer). I was at work when I tried to start it and it had lost prime due to a fuel pressure regulator problem, that the part has already been purchased, and is awaiting instalation. I ran the battery down trying to start it, 4 hrs later I boosted it with a fast charge and it started right up, with one problem... A knock!... consistant with the rpm, when the engine ran faster the knock went faster. now in my experience that is bad, but has never happened all at once to me, it normally shows signs and starts out alot milder working its way to the extreme that it is at now. What happened?

Never mind I was having a stressful day and was not thinking straight. The starter is shot, but the knock was from the lifters not being lubed while the truck was turning over and not starting. after it warmed up and started pumping oil it stopped, but for good measure I added some teflon additive to my oil. Now I just need a fuel pressure regulator and a starter. Hopefully my fly wheel is O.K.
