Door release/open

My passenger door handle started acting up. It won't open from the outside.
The lock will operate with the key and the door opens from the inside. Any Ideas? Thanks.

The pushbutton may be out of adjustment. It has a protruding screw which activates the release mechanism at the latch. You should be able to tell what's going on when you look inside the door....just put the window up and remove the access panel.

Your internal door release mechanism could be worn out too. I don't have a pic but the door button presses on the internal lever which has a tiny L-shaped metal tab. Mine was badly worn out so it didn't fully allow the circular latch wheel to release.

Check up inside the door as 'resonateur' suggested. I had to pry on the metal hook to get the latch wheel to spin freely, then I was able to push the door open. We bent the tab and got the door release to work again.

I hope you can still remove your door access panel? I was building my truck, so the panel was already off and I hadn't installed the windows either. I also didn't have my seat mounted yet so I had easy access. Good luck!

You can remove the outside door handle by rolling window up. Remove door access panel with a 5/16" wrench reach up and remove stud nut from the inside, it's holding door handle. Once that one is removed, locate the phillip screw by the door weather strip. Hold outside door handle so it doesn't fall.
Inspect door handle, lube using white lithium grease.
This is also the time to lube internal parts inside the door. Use a straw attached to an aerosol can of white lithium grease.
Might as well lube up window mechanism while your at it.
You can disassemble the door button from the housing, there's two screws holding it together. Clean and lube.
Re assemble and all should be good.
Unless there are broken parts which I doubt, but you never know.
Very easy job, You'll be surprised at how your door handle and window mechanisms work when your done.

Just re-read the original post, realized that door does open from inside. My ramblings don't really apply, sorry about that.

Every thing helps. I had the access panel off last weekend while rewiring a speaker the previous owner put in. The door has always been a little "sticky" to open. We'll see what's going on this weekend.
Thanks.
