Well my alternator went bad and I took the opportunity to upgrade to the 3G alternator. Not a hard job whatsoever just took my time making sure everything was soldered and wire loomed nice.

If you have not done this upgrade...do yourself a huge favor and DO SO!

I am beyond happy with how this alternator performs compared to the stock one.

Just thought I would write my two cents on the 3G alternators for those who are contemplating whether to upgrade or not.

I bought and installed this 250 amp one. It fit fine with no modifications. I use it to power 6 electric fans, an electric coolant pump and an electric fuel pump

I did this conversion on my 84 IDI and my brother's 83 FSB. We did it with junkyard parts, cheap and works excellent. Planning on changing over my 79 FSB as well.

 

I upgraded to 3G on my E250 and it's the bomb. It powers my power inverter plus various other accessories (and e-pump) like nothing.

 

Did my swap about 5 years or so ago and never looked back. It is a must when running a plow and aux lights like I do.
