Of course. You lock or unlock the truck with the remote, the keypad, or the interior door buttons, and the tailgate locks or unlocks with all the doors.

Yes, you can not unlock the tail gate and cab separately.

Thanks for the information and now Next question. Can the tailgate lock function be de-activated? I can picture 19 scenarios when a locked tailgate would be a pain.

If its like my wifes 2015 Exploder, i can stand at the back hatch with the fob in my pocket and hit the gate button and it will open up with the car locked. Pretty decent proximity sensors on that thing.

Thats the other thing, i didn't notice the little thumb pads for unlocking locking on the door handles or the pull to unlock while you have the fob in your pocket. I wonder if they are there?

On my 16 F150 I can unlock the tailgate with the key fob and the truck doors remain locked. Why would the 17 SD be any different?
Now when I lock it, the doors and the tailgate lock together

I guess that it's possible that you can, I just haven't played around with one enough. I'm sure if they fob has a tailgate button, and the truck is locked, it will drop it without unlocking the truck, but you can not hit the button on the tailgate unless the truck itself is unlocked. that situation I have run into.

You are correct on that. I have ran into that several times myself

Thanks again for your insight.

So what I get out of all this if the truck is locked I am also locked out of the tailgate. This means if I am working in the shop with the truck parked outside and my keys are in the house I must first go get the keys in order to drop the tailgate to retrieve something or put something in the box. Sounds like a pain in the butt to me

Just memorize the combination for the keyless entry on the door. That is one of the best features ever invented for cars.

So, right after we cut the "key in ignition" wire to silence the speaker, we go out back and feed constant 12v power to the tailgate button.

Sounds about right. I wonder how long it will be before we find the right color for the key in ignition trigger? I hope someone has it by next spring...

Push button start and stop. So no more keys in the ignition.
I like the tailgate locking feature, now with my new bed cover everything will always be locked up automatically when I walk away from the truck.

Guys without Lariat Ultimate or higher trim will get the power lock tailgate. They will not have a tailgate button or electric release. There is no proximity feature. If it is a bother, the easy fix would be to unplug the lock actuator.

The keyless start key fob has a SWEET hiding spot. It is under the new cup holder/ storage spot. Pick that up, pick up a false bottom and it has its shape cut out in foam for it to sit in. Thought I grabbed a pick but i didn't.

My F150 Lariat has both a button on the key fob and a button on the tailgate.
