ok here is the deal i have a couple of questions about my Expedition stereo !! i just had my subs and amplifier installed in the expedition and i am kinda unhappy with it !! i had this same setup in my s-10 and it was 10 times louder then it is now dont get me wrong it is loud just doesnt suit me the way i thought it would !! now my problem i think is the fact that im still running the stock head unit using high level inputs on my amp ?! i acquired a brand new kenwood head unit last night(i traded my pioneer that was in my eclipse for it) and the kenwood has changer controls i guess i really have 2 questions 1: is the aftermarket head unit going to give me the desired effects that im looking for?? 2: is there an adapter that i can buy that will allow me to use my exsisting 6 disc changer !? i really dont want to lose the convience of having a 6 disc changer that works good so if anyone has suggestions for this please let me know !!
Well I don't think that the Six Disk is going to work. That whole Ford/Kenwood mix. I don't think that they could talk to each to each other. Unless it is one of those add on unit where you turn it to that one radio station. Then that could work. But I don't think that it is. I can imagine that a system in an S-10 would be a little bit louder than a Expy. Did you have the SPL's checked against one another or are you going by your ear? It seems to me that the interior volume of the Expy might dissipate some of the sound as so it doesn't travel the same in the S-10, making it sound like it isn't as loud. But I am sure that the head unit with the pre-outs and more customizeable EQ's make it sound better.
There is no comparisen of an S10 to an Expy. Good sound starts at the source. It begins from your CD to your HU and so on. Whould the Kenwood sound better?,...... Probly. L.O.C.s all have there bad points. That could be part of your problem. Using the Kenwood would most likey eliminate the need for the L.O.C. so you can run RCA's to the amp. What set up do you have running?
my current set up is 3 12" JLAudio W3 D4s on a rockford 800a2 in a ported box !! i know that by ear the s-10 woulda been louder and in your face but it just sounds to me that it dont sound as good in the expy i had a sealed box in the s-10 and went with a ported in the expy !! it shoulda gotten louder ? unless im just retarted but i have been around the car audio scene for a long time so i know what it should sound like ?! im open to all suggestions ?!
There are no adapters I know of to be able to use the factory 6 disc with an aftermarket unit. You would be better to spend the $100 for a Kenwood changer. Then you would have RCA's that will give a cleaner signal, not to mention a better quality head unit itself.
The airspace from an S-10 to an Expy are going to be a huge factor in your sound. The Expy has at least 5 times the air than an S-10 for sound to travel through. Which way do you have the box pointed? I am ammusing the ported box was built to specs for a certain megahertz?!?! Sounds like you have a very good start for an excellent system, just need to fine-tune some things.
the box was built by Ovation the box was built to spec ! per JLAudios website !! the subs face up into the cieling and the ports face into the tailgate ! ok since we are on the discussion of stereo equipment i just went and bought my wiring harness for the radio can someone eplain this too me ?! the truck has a mach 460 system(premium) sound system so i bought the harness plugs specified for my truck ?! but there are 2 connectors that have speaker wire colors on it ?! PLEASE HELP ! i have yet to see something like this ?!
The wiring harness may be for a few differant radios. One might also be to bypass the stock amp or keep using it. Having the subs fire up might be your problem. While that works well in some cases, others need to fire into a panel.
man thats no good that means ill have to build another box to get them to fire correctly !! does anyone know what premium connector was on the 97 expy? i have both sitting in front of me so i was wondering which one to use ?!
Unless you are using a lot of 12's of 15's, I would fire them into the back panel like Pr said. Can you not turn the box to face the rear and the ports up?
The harness you have probably is the one sold that has the amp bypass with it. Pull your radio out and match the ends. Let us know what is left.
with the amp bypass? is that the 8 pin or the 16 pin ? i am at work right now so i cant exactly go out and pull it out im just trying to prewire everything !!
Does it have the wire color listings on the back? I was looking no Scosche's website for a diagram, but they do not list it there.
I did find a wiring harness to be able to hook up an aftermarket radio to a factory cd changer, but they do not make one for Kenwood - only Alpine, Pioneer, Audiovox, and Sanyo.
Doesn't the FDK10 come with 3 plugs? I just got a harness yesterday from walmart FDK16 i think for my Explorer and I saw the FDK10 and FDK2(i think) and i could of sworn they both had 3 plugs in them. One was a power plug and the other where for the option of bypassing the radio. I only glanced at them but I think they have some sort of directions inside the package.
