Axle shudder
I have a 99 PSD. During highway driving, when making a 90 degree right or left turn after the off ramp, the rear axle makes a shuddering sound. It's like it needs to "readjust" after going straight for so long. Does anyone know what this could be?

Look on the tag on your rear diff. It is attached to one of the bolts. I bet you a dollar that the first set of numbers (and letter I think) on the bottom row will be 3L73. If that is the case you have a limited slip rear diff and you do not have enough friction modifier in it and it's locking up when you go around corners. If the numbers are 373 without the "L" between them then I have no idea what's going on.

Tony, RRMike is right but you may want to try getting in a parking lot, make tight circles to the right and back to the left. I had the same problem. Dealer recommended above and it works. I do this every few months. ( Of course this only works with a trac. loc axle. Good luck, Carroll Allison
