[updated:LAST EDITED ON 27-Jan-02 AT 07:32 AM (EST)]Is there any differences in the dashes put in the 87-91 and the 92-97?
I know the instrument cluster is different, is there anything else? I am building a truck and trying to decide what dash to look for? If I go with the 92-97 style will I have a problem with the digital odometer? could I hook the cruise control up to a carb?
They're designed different. Basically they'll bolt in place on either. I would think the 87-91 style would be easier to get all the connections connected.
Do they basically look the same? also I want to use the 92-97 front clip, will I have to modify the wiring harness for the different lights or do they use the same plugs as the 87-91? I already Have a dash out of a 87. I dont know if I want to use it though. I am building this truck ground up for how I want it

hey man,
ok heres what i have gathered from the front clip question....as for changing it to a 92-96(or97 f250,350), you will need the fenders, windshield wiper cowl, hood, stone deflector(goes between the grill and the bumper, new bumper, grill and headlight assemblies....im thinkin of doin the same thing. as far asa the dashes go, they should just bolt right up except for the guages, but you could always pull the guages out and put aftermarket ones in their place. also, remember that the door panels will be different 80-86, 87-91, 92-97, so you will need to get the door panels that match the dash too. finally, the beds from the 80-86 are different than the 87-97, so you may need one of those too if you decide to go with a newer front end. good luck, hope this helps.
I am just curious, how are the bes different? Is the wiring the same on the wiring harness' from 87-91 and 92-96 for the headlights? I already Have the 87 dash, just cant decide if thats the one I want. I like the look of the 92-96 a little better.
hey man
go to the pic gallery and look at the 80-86's and the 87-96's. the wheelwells are different on the beds. as far as the headlights go, it should be the same from 87-96. last time i bought headlights for my truck i think that the part nums were the same from 87-96. good luck
I honestly cant tell by the pics. I have a 87 bed at my shop and a 84 truck so i will look tomorrow. Do they bolt up the same? What I plan oin doing is using a 82 fram, 87 cab and bed, 92-97 front clip, and probably the 92 - 97 dash and interior. I still havent decided about the dash. If I go with the 92-97 dash I will have the 87 dash and wiring loom just sitting there complete. I also plan on dumping a 460 stroked to a 490 in there with a zf 5-speed and i am thinkink I am going to have to upgrade the front axle to a dana 60 solid cause from what a heard the dana 50 wont be strong enough.
