Hello everybody, I'm going to order a upgraded fuel pressure spring and I'm not sure if I need the whole kit or not? I would like to just replace the spring and gasket (because I'm broke lol) but not sure if I need the housing? Is the new housing specific to the blue spring? Or can I just reuse my old one? Pretty sure it's in good shape. Thanks

you can reuse your old one, if the o-ring gasket it good you may even be ok with that. However if it were me I'd replace the gasket anyway.
I replaced the spring, the gasket, and few other parts that came with the kit. Now that I remember installing it, my kit did not come with the cover. It's a van and the housing is different. The kit was more expensive than the same kit for the truck that came with the housing!
I also didn't want to chance creating a leak, or cracking my cover, so I took lose the bracket that holds the hard line to the engine and then removed the cover bolts and the whole fuel line and cover just swings away.
There are some other parts in this kit you might need like the poppet valve and the gasket that goes with it. I used the new cover o-ring myself, but it did look like it could have been reused -- maybe depends on miles...
I also used the complete kit with the cover. I really didn't see enough difference in covers to necessitate changing but did, knowing it was included.
Here the picture with the part# included, besides my unison ring and turbo gasket replacement kits just used.
Thanks for all the feedback. Ya it looked fine when I had it off to make sure the PO didn't already install the blue spring. I will order just the spring. Pretty sure it comes with the gasket if not I'm sure I have one around anyways. Thanks again.
Always a good idea to replace the four o-rings under those fuel lines if they are cracked loose. You would be surprised how much they compress over time.

Just make sure it is a Ford part number, plenty of fakes out there...
A little off topic but the blue washes off the spring pretty quickly. Pulling it out and measuring the legnth is the only way to tell which spring is in there.

Hmm never thought about that. Lol. Well it's getting one anyways.
What are the lengths of the original and new springs?
The truck is starting to nickel and dime me to death (good thing I don't have a payment).
But, I want to do this if it's not already done.
Not sure what you mean? Pretty sure it sticks out into the housing and the housing applys pressure to the end of the spring if I remember right.
Yeah sorry I wasn't very clear, i'm new to the diesel market. The housing that the spring fits into sticks out, however the blue spring is longer. Does the new blue spring need to be seated in the fuel pressure regulator housing the same distance protruding as the standard factory one or should the new blue spring stick out further because when comparing the two springs, the blue is longer. Does this clarify at all?

I'll jump in here and say Yes, the new spring protrudes out a bit further than the old one. You will need to press it in with the cover as you start the screws and then it will pull in as you screw it tight. Just a word of caution...don't over tighten the screws, they will remove much harder the next time if you do.
just snug the screws up and try to apply near even pressure on each and it should be fine.
