I see we both have 03(s) too. Maybe some one using the same setup will chime in.

Under Settings, in the ODBII Adapter settings: try unchecking Faster Communications (if it is checked) and if that doesn't work check the Disable ELM327 auto timing adjust.

I think the BAFX is one of the better ELM327s out there and you shouldn't need to do this, but if you are having connection problems... If it works I'd get a replacement BAFX. My el-cheap-o China unit can handle Fast Comms and a ton of PIDs up in real-time at once...

It reads my ECT in real time but drops out the EOT. So I know the adapter is talking to the ECU. Frustrating.

That is one of the symptoms if it is not in sync. communicating -- it drops some, maybe you'll get an error, but mostly it's there sometimes and not others. Did you try slowing it down?

Got it working. Had to set the protocol in my profile to "Automatic Thorough" and it hooked right up. I did also re-pair it with my phone.

Glad you figured it out. I have a 95 7.3 and torque lite debating on going pro. Does anyone have this issue? When I go to do anything that requires it to ask a question read codes or clear codes etc it makes my engine sputter or completely kills it. I also get the showing XX errors/codes but has none when i go to the other screen even with the cel on. Is mine just too old for it to work right?

Well, OBDII came out with MY '96, so yours should be OBD (or OBDI, pick your naming convention), So I'd go with it not talking the same ling-o. There is a forum for Torque users, maybe you could get an answer there? Or go to the 7.3 forum here and see what they have to say...

I've had the re-pairing thing work for cars that will Bluetooth to your phone, so maybe it was a bluetooth thing -- the BAFX OBDII units are pretty highly regarded for their quality...

I should have welcomed you to FTE, and certainly my toes weren't stepped on -- hope you didn't read that into my post. Check out the forum for your model year here on FTE, if it is anything like this one, a pretty cool group of folks, and very helpful!

Thanks but like the guy said "charlie brown's teacher doing a lot of talking." I'll get my 9 year old to look at it and explain it to me.

In a nut shell it sounds like there is something in the ECU's programming that when you request for the codes it causes the ECU to reset therefore shutting down the truck.
