Back Up Lights

Hey guys, just picked up a 2016 3.5L F150 Lariat for my wife. Truck is amazing and have no complaints besides the reverse lights. We have tinted the Windows 5% and when backing up figured the reverse lights would light up well enough for the backup camera to see. However compared to my 6.7 Powerstroke it is extremely dark and my wife has troubles seeing at night using the camera. Has anyone upgraded to LED reverse lights or added in rigid lights in the rear bumper. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

I've got the LED reverse lights, and they aren't much better. Remember, those lights exist to tell others you're backing up... not for illumination purposes. 5% on the front windows is also ludicrous (unless you have a medical necessity), but I won't get into that. I have 35 on the front, 20 on the rear, and 5 on the back window... since I have a commercial topper on the back, the rear window is useless anyway.

Look into something aftermarket to hang under the rear bumper. Rigid is a good choice... expensive, but they'll last forever. If you really want to spend money, there are replacement rear bumpers that have mounting locations built in. Fab Fours, Road Armor, Ranch Hand, and more.

And while you're getting a rear bumper, you'll want the front to match, so you can use this as justification for a grille guard or front-end replacement.

Thanks for the heads up. I am aware that they are to alert others, was just hoping they would provide a little better illumination then they currently do. I should also clarify the windshield is not 5% haha. I agree that is ridiculous but I do plan on tinting it with a light tint. I'm not big on lights under the number and the since it is the wife's truck I don't think she will like me upgrading to ABR bumpers. I will switch to LEDs see if it helps at all then try and possibly customize the stock number. Thanks again for your insight

I just mounted a couple of inexpensive fog lights below the rear bumper. Face each one slightly outboard and you will be able to see as well as you can in the daytime. Here is an example from Tractor Supply Company: Blazer Rear Mount Tractor Light, Trapezoid Beam, CA Prop 65 Compliant - For Life Out Here
