Question What to do?

I already dropped this line in the S/B group. Now I want the B/B opinion. I have a 69 F100 project with what seems to be an original 360 FE under the hood...unmolested! However I also have an early model 351W already bored I think, and a 4-barrel setup w/cam. But I have no knowledge of either motor other than that they are both mine. I have all accessories and trany's to run either of them except a/c pump, alternanator and mounts, i think. If I used the S/B then I would need to know how to set up the factory A/C and power steering...if there is any difference. I have only ran the FE in these trucks. I know that motor mounts and trany even may be different. I'm sure soem of you have done this before, so any and all advice is appreciated.

I like keeping the FE in place, just because it's easier. you don't have to worry about. mounts, brackets and drive shaft lengths. Plus, I like the FE motors.

You may also consider converting to a 390 if it's in the budget.

What to do?

well, i gotta ask what was the opinion of the small block group???
i would immagine most in here would tell you to keep the 360, and turn it into a 390 ( crank, rods, pistons, and it's a 390) for numerouse reasons.
first off, there's no cubic inch or size advantage in putting in a 351. you've already got 360 cubes and you can get your 360 to a 390 cheaper than you can gettin 30 more cubes from a 351.
i love the small blocks, but to get real power from them you need to do something with the cylinder heads.........the stock ones have tiny tiny intake and exaust ports, and you either need after market heads or the stock ones really worked, either way it costs. with the 360, the stock heads should be able to give you what you need for an honest 350 to 400 horse engine ( depending on if its a 360 or 390 ) and maybe more, but i'm sure the stock 360/390 heads will give you the power you'd need and to get that from a 351 you'd need, like i said, to do something with the heads.
i have a 68 f-100 myself, you need torque........lot's of it, the 360/390 does this naturally, the 351 will have to most likely rev alot higher to get this same torque.
also, if it's an automatic c-6, those things take some power to turn so your better off with a big block in front of it.
not to mention, it's already set up for a 360, and you can't beat that with a stick!!!!!!!!!!!
like i said the 351w is a fine motor and yes you could build one that would make the truck a screamer, but i think it would be acheived with less effort all around to use the good ol FE. besides, there's some glory in running an engine thats basic desighn came from the 1950's.......lol..........oh ya, i forgot to mention if you build a 360 or 390 right they are incredibly reliable monsters...................

What to do?

OYu have a strong point about torgue. I ran a 67' with the 390 and it screamed. All I could do to keep it on the ground. Almost too much power!!! I will probable unload this 351W but, I have been out of the circuit so long that I don't even know it's honest worth. I have a complete setup from carb to drive shaft minus one exhaust manifold....not even sure what it came out of. I aquired the setup from a family member whom owed me money and he got it somewhere......any ideas on it's worth? S/B group says $500. I just am not sure.
