Eh, it's more a rule of thumb so Joe Q Public knows the approximate parameters of working their rig.
Just remember, you can have a tune labeled "35hp Daily Driver" that destroys an engine, and on the flip side a tune labeled "95hp Performance" that can pull a 10k lb trailer all day every day.

remember its about the "supporting mods" when it comes to the "tunes", so if your going to have a tune of any type be sure you have the supporting mods (listed above in other posts) before starting with the tunes so you can know if something is not right!
I'll cast my vote for the Hydra. I have the AXD1 PCM and shifting, EGTs, fuel mileage, etc are a night and day difference. I tow a 9k camper through the mountains here in CO, and I don't know how I did without it. I'm sure full blown custom tunes are even better, but at $375 it's worth every dime...plus you can add custom tunes later.
I bought the php hydra chip from alligator proformance. I thought the price was good and im able to download tunes for free and load them myself. I'm gonna hold off on having the PCM flashed for now. Tomorrow will be the maiden voyage. Cant wait. I loaded stock, 65 tow, 80 tow, 85 Econ, and whisper. Thanks to all who replied. I'll post in a few days.
