Hello I'm new to the forum. I bought a really fine 94 EAWD Aerostar with 150,00 miles from original owner very well take care of a few smallm bugs. The awd has issues I can figure out yet. I have a 9 flash the owner replaced the senceers so there must be a bad ground acording to what I researched.
Anyway my springs are shot my van is 3/4 inch lover on driver side front and 1/2 lower on rear right. You can buy springs for rwd f/r off shelf EAWD r only from auto zone I contacted moog they stop makeing front springs years ago. They gave me a link to there springs the problem is EAWD springs have a pig tail bottom and curl top. Ranger explorer bronco 2 all have curl top bottom. I would like to raise the van to put larger than 215-14 tires. Coil spacers are a though but my springs are still sagging. Going around the corner it handles like a statue in a wheel barrow.
AFAIK, front springs have long been discontinued by both Ford and the aftermarket for the AWD Aeros. You might find one collecting dust on a shelf somewhere or perhaps a salvage yard. And you might hit the Powerball also.
Here is a long shot possibility. I was a former Aerostar owner and contributor here for many years. When I sold my Aerostar I load all my spare parts into the van and off they went. Among them was a perfectly good pair of AWD front springs. The van went through two other owners. I corresponded for a time with the last owner whose email address I am furnishing with the hope he might have the springs you need. Try contacting Dan at roadlessgraveled@yahoo.com BTW, aftermarket springs were no where near the quality of the originals. Good luck on your quest.

Reason: On edit: Time elapse my not be relevant
UPDATE: Surprise, surprise. Today while rummaging through my garage I found the pair of OEM front springs I removed from my E-4WD 1991 Aerostar. These are still in excellent condition and I would be glad to pass them along to anyone looking for replacements. Send me a private email to correspond. I'll include a photo if I can still remember how to post one. (And copper doesn't find this post! Hey copper how ya doin bud - can't believe your still moderating!!)
I sent you a message from my gmail I could use the springs my are saved to 26" hight and I rub when makeing a tight turn and the van leans 1 inch lower on drivers sideIcuff4 cash@ gmail.com

Yes, please measure inner diameter, wire thickness, and free height. With those, we can try to find replacements by size. thanks.
I can quote you the measurements but it will all be for naught as there is no exact aftermarket replacement. At least not when I was looking a few years back. The ones I wound up buying were slightly taller, thinner diameter and when compressed in their resting (static) state had decidedly bowed appearance. I gave away all my reference materials and receipts when the van was sold or I could tell you which one to avoid.
Free Height: 13.25 inch
Inner Diameter: 3.4375 inch
Coil diameter: 0.735 inch

aeroC,
you da AeroMan. You probably did more work on repairing, refining, and improving your Aeros than anyone else on here. Good to read you again.
Mine just sets out on the street, drive maybe once a week, haulmobile. Fires up on first key hit and runs like a seat rocket.
good mpg. The Tank Van that just won't die.
Fresh high pressure high end shocks such as KYG Gas-Ajust are critical to long spring life front and rear. Reduces rough road damage to springs and suspension parts. Extra money spent on high end shocks comes back multiple times on saved suspensions repairs.
There was an internet listed company a few years ago that offered custom order made Aero springs on a one shot deal for not much more than the OEMs cost when still avail. years ago.

Hey 96_4wdr: good to see you're still around as well. You are right about the KYGs. I put a set all the way around and was amazed at how much better the old gal rode and handled. Of course it was just me mostly being hauled around. I do miss the old gal but the timing was serendipitous as I underwent some serious cardiac surgery shortly thereafter. Couldn't even blow my nose without hurting let alone work with a wrench for long time afterwards.
A buddy in Wyoming last year picked up a '95 Aerostar in excellent condition and I occasionally get a reminder ride.
I think I saw an ad for something similar - doing a custom spring but hesitated to check it out fearing the expense would be excessive.
Thanks Aerocolorado. The coil ID is the same as springs of a number of other cars, including Fox body Ford cars (Fairmont, Mustang...), but the wire diameter, having the biggest effect on the spring rate, is thicker than the thickest of the stock Fox springs.
The missing parameter needed in the equation is the number of coils in the spring.
I forgot that you posted a picture (duh!), and counted about 8.5 coils. Based on your numbers and the specs for the springs I have, I get about 660 lbs/in spring rate.
So the Moog/Rockwell 8606 may be too tall and not stiff enough at 15.19" height and only 462 lb/in rate.
On the other hand, my Global West 800 lb/in springs may work! I don't want to pull out my lower spring to try this unless I have to get into it to do something else.
