Drive shaft geometry

So i installed a 5.5 inch lift kit from bronco graveyard and my shocks don't line up. When I mount my shock to the axle the shock body hits the axle and I don't get enough rotation on the shock to meet the top shock mount. So has me wondering now if my axle is rotated incorrectly. What should the geometry be on my drive shaft/pinion...?? It is a 78 f150 with 5.5 inch lift using deaver springs.

Thanks

You need to actually measure the pinion angle to determine if you need to shim it and how many degrees you might need.

You need to remove the driveline from the front yoke of the rearend to get a magnetic angle finder on it.

In my picture above you can see that the pinion from my rearend is facing upward. I don't know the exact angle that you should have. I would hope that somebody here or from the Bronco Graveyard would have a recommendation.

Then you have to loosen the U-bolts that hold the axle to the leaf springs and slide in appropriate shims.

Oh I see.. yea my pinion is definitely not facing upwarda like yours. So i would need to match the face of my pinion angle with the face of my yoke angle correct? I have also seen where the pinion is in a straight line with the drive shaft. Is that another method keeping the pinion in straight line with drive shaft?

I have never set pinion angle.
Hopefully somebody here can get your actual hands on guidance.
Until then, here's an article.
How To Set Pinion Angle -- HotRod.com

And while not a Ford, this so far has touched on what i know about u-joints, angles, and phasing.

Right around the 2:40 mark he starts talking about angles and vibration cancellation.
around 4:00 he starts showing a bad pinion angle.

First off you need to tell us if you have a CV joint on the front of your rear shaft or not. If you do your pinion should be slightly lower than straight inline with your drive shaft. Like a couple degrees I believe.
If you have standard u joints on both ends of the shaft you need to have matching angles at the front of the shaft and the rear. Hope this helps. My long box regular cab doesn't have a CV joint on it but I'm sure there are lots that do. I think it has to do with long box vs short box.
Also have you drove it enough to test those rear springs out? How's the ride? Softer than factory or stiffer? Thanks

I was just about to reply with that lol.. yes i have a cv joint and from what i been reading I don't think matching the angles applies. From the pictures I've seen the pinion looks in line with the drive shaft. I just can't findo how much lower.

I haven't drove it with the springs yet. My shocks mounts don't line up to get shocks on it. I'm hoping for a lot softer ride.
