After getting rid of "msblast" I had another virus to contend with. I ran Norton Antivirus and it flagged a virus called "backdoor.jeem" is this related to "msblast" or is this just a coincidence?
well....the backdoor.jeem virus isnt good. it basically lets anyone who knows how to "walk" up and open your computer from theirs and can do what ever they would like to do. not good, but i dont think that has anything to do with MSBLAST. Thankfully you ran Norton to get rid of it.
A firend of mine got the same thing but his virus scan cant remove it so he is a little worried what could happen to his. Like the other day someone hacked him and moved all his music to someother place on the harddrive and it took him about an hour to finnally find it. It wasnt serious but who knows whats next.....
I went to the Norton website and their was a fix for the "backdoor.jeem" virus. You might have to be a current subscriber. It was a little complicated, you had to perform several steps in the "safe" mode. The fix was specific to this virus. Good luck
oh, my friend tried that. he some how cant remove the virus. he hacks for fun and so someone hacked him and now he cant get rid of it. hes tried many a time it just cant remove it.

If you're running XP (the same for 2000), go to the Administrative Tools in the Control Panel, go to Services, find the Messenger service, right click it and go to Properties. From there go to the Startup type dropdown and select 'Disabled'. That will take care of that problem.
I'm not sure if you have to be a current subscriber to Norton, but they have an encyclopedia of "viruses" to pick from. I printed the instructions for removal/ restoring off their website. If I remember I had to go into the registry and delete some keys. All this was done in the "safe" mode. Anyway, knock on wood, it seems to have worked.
