Can anybody help me? Should I buy a gas or diesel truck...I commute around 70 miles a day and thinking about buying a trailer in the near future... I have a 97 f-250 HD 5.8 and it is a gas pig.......I am planning to buy a 99 F250 Super Duty( gas or diesel) Anybody have some idea on the gas milage on the two trucks?....
I heard that the diesel trucks last longer then the gas is that true?
I have ceartainly seen at least 2 powerstrokes at 300k miles and still going strong. The mileage on the diesel is between 15 and 20 mpg, the best I ever saw was on my buddys 95 was 23 but that was in a bad snow storm and 4wd half of the time going around 45-50 mph Sure beets the heck out of a gasser. gassers are nice because it cheaper to maintain but you won't get the life expectancy of the diesel. Not to mention the low end grunt and towing capabilitys that the diesel has.
diesel or ???? is there an or? If you like power, durability, and a real truck...I'd say you'd have to go diesel all the way...if you just want something to get around in, I'd still say diesel.
Don't get a diesel, you won't like the better milage, cheaper fuel (most places), pulling power. I'd rather strain a gasser pulling a load up a hill at 30 mph than breeze over with a diesel at 55 mph. Plus I don't like having the same engine under the hood a long time. I prefer to have to buy a new engine every once & a while. The diesel engine lasts so long that it won't look clean like a new gasser engine that you just put in.

Diesel would be my choice! I've pulled a 33' 5th wheel from Texas to Canada w/PSD '01 F250 ... no problem! I'd avg. about 20mpg 50/50 city/hwy driving w/o trailer, ofcourse. Go for it!
Diesel is the way to go. Trust me you will never go back. Sit on the side of the road and take a nap for 2 hours and see if your truck overheats. My mpg in city is like 19 and 26 on highway. I will never go back to gas.
