CPS and TSS

Once again, I turn to the unequaled wisdom and experience of the Brotherhood on this forum. I would like to humbly submit two questions, that I hope are not too redundant and or pedestrian for my brothers with much more experience than I.

One : I picked up a gray CPS from Ford, and it has the slight protrusion in the tip, of a centered magnet. It will pick up a 12mm 1/4 inch drive socket. I have read that this is a good test, although not conclusive.

Two: I want to pick up a speed sensor or TSS, but not sure if all 99-03 trucks with the 7.3 use the same Ford part #.

These are two items I will be carrying in the glove box, to fight Murphy ! Any info you all have is welcome. I continue to be grateful for all your help, advice and support.

I have read some conflicting data on the CPS snafu, but I think those may have been early recall units that failed regularly. No info on the TSS that I can find so far. Thanks fellas.

IMO the "Key: sensors to keep are: CPS, IPR, and CMP. These are the ones that will stop you dead in your tracks, anywhere, anytime, anyplace.

A speed sensor OR a TSS? The Turbine Speed Sensor (TSS) is one of many speed sensors on the vehicle. All automatic trucks from '99 to '03 use the same TSS, but not all trucks from '99 to '03 are automatics. Those that are not do not have this sensor.

And why did you pick this transmission sensor? There is also an Output Speed Sensor (OSS) on the transmission. Why not one of these, too? Neither of these sensors will keep the truck from operating, if either of them goes bad you'll get a flashing OD OFF light, a code set, and some harsh shifts. You can still drive it home.

Thank you Mark. That is good to know. I just got some incomplete info on the sensors. I have no experience in this area. Had not heard about the OD light flashing, to indicate this condition. Now I will know. Appreciate the correction, and you taking the time to explain this to me.
