I have a 83 bronco with tranny code A can anyone tell me if it is a NP435 or a T-18 Icant tell from the pictures in the haynes manual. also what would be the correct fluid my friends say middle of the road gear oil and change it every year(ie 80W90)
also can I use same oil in the diffs and transfer case(I know I need to add the limited slip to the rear) Haynes says no! I need mercon for transfer case and Hypoid for rear friends say gear oil is fine
please help
thanks
Gear oil is fine for the diffs I went to ford for my diff oil and it was 80-90. But I think the tcase is mercon and and it would be better to use. Your tranny is a NP435. Phone your ford dealer to find out for sure on all your drivetrain oils.
Just in case it is a changeout, here are some ways to tell:
NP435 - Aluminum Shift Tower
BW T18 - Cast Iron Shift Tower (Case casting #1301)
BW T19 - Cast Iron Shift Tower (Case casting #1309)
Transfer Case - Mercon ATF
Transmission - 80W90 as with front and rear diffs
