On my 72 f100 the fuel gauge shows 3/4 full when I fill up the tank. The gauge works fine between empty and 3/4 full. Why doesn't it go all the way to full when the tank is filled? Any info will be appreciated. Thanks.
You will need a multimeter( electrical test). turn the selector dial to ohms ( measuring resistance in a circuit). The ohm symbol looks
like an upside down horseshoe. Unplug the orange wire at the sending unit and put one meter lead on the sending unit terminal and the other black meter lead to ground. If your guage is full it should read around 14 - 16 ohms.
It is best to take the sending unit out and move the float all the way up and all the way down checking the variable resistance.
around 14 all the way up and around 80 all the way down. resistance will vary from unit to unit. One other thing to mention is if your sending unit is showing a change in ohms, then it's most likely good, you may have a problem with the float going all the way to the maximum when full( hole in float) or something physically stopping it.
