My experience was different, at 96,852, the original plugs were way past due and #2 had ejected. The center points were almost gone leaving the gap twice as wide as it should be. Every other picture I have seen of original plugs anywhere near that mileage show the same thing. The gap gets way too wide well before 100K miles. Someone posted their plugs changed @ 120,somethingK and the ground straps had chunks burned off them. But it still "started and drove". No thanks, not in my engine.
This is the first I remember seeing anyone recommending NOT changing the plugs early, on any modular. I certainly wouldn't "wait until they misfire & change them on the road".
Best of luck OP, whatever you decide. I hope you err on the side of caution instead of letting your maintenance go until something breaks.

Good day!

A quick word of thanks to all who offered your thoughts. We're looking forward to the trip and I'll feel so much more comfortable knowing that my truck is as prepared as possible!

If you don't have one already, I would suggest a Bluetooth OBD dongle. It would enable you to monitor, in real time, vital engine parameters - coolant temperature, tranny fluid temperature, fault codes, misfires, etc.

I wouldn't ever consider leaving for a trip without mine. Love it!

I ordered this one. Has worked flawlessly with my Android phone for over 3.5 years.

Amazon.com: BAFX Products 34t5 Bluetooth OBDII Scan Tool for Android Devices: Automotive Amazon.com: BAFX Products 34t5 Bluetooth OBDII Scan Tool for Android Devices: Automotive

I have a magnetic mount for my phone on my dashboard, and I keep Torque app up and running whenever I'm towing/hauling.
