driving a '67 250

hi, just recently purchased a 67 250 and my wife is a little disturbed by the lose steering while driving. The truck tends to take a lot of steering control in order to keep it in the lane. I told her to just chalk itup to an old Ford, does anyone have a tech reason for it?

Thanks

My 68 got a similar response from wifey when I brought it home. She really didn't say anything until she and her mom used it to haul something home from a yard sale. No p/s or p/b was a rare treat she had never experienced and may never again. If all you tierods ect. are good, you may want to try and tighten the setscrew on the steering box. I got mine noticably better by making the adjustment, but if you don't have power steering the ratio is so much slower (more turns lock to lock) so you just have to get used to doing a bit more driving

Jack up the front and grab the tires and give them a wiggle. See of the king pins are sloppy, or maybe the tierods. If they are tight, then give the set screw on box a 1/4 turn or so to take up some slack in the gears.

You will find that even though it may be all tight that it still wanders/pulls a bit while driving on un-smooth roads. Just typical for old trucks. It is a big leap to drive these older trucks after driving new ones. They just aren't as refined as new trucks.
