Harness Cover
Harness Cover
Hey all,
Under the van this morning, i noticed that the plastic cover on the main harness was melted. i took it apart and its just the cover thats melted. Maybe from an exhaust repair or something....not sure...
Does anyone know where to get a replacement? thanks.

Looks to be integral to the harness assembly---if so it wouldn't be replaceable separately.
Not really sure how to repair that cover----not helpful but if the van's been running well so far it might not be that big an issue. Perhaps wrapping the melted part with a heavy electrical tape or a fusible silicone type might work?
Some of the heater control parts that see somewhat high amp draws over time show that same condition even though they work perfectly fine for a long time. I too would want to correct such a find, just not sure how to go about it.
BTW post your vehicle info inside a thread or OP---its helpful to others trying to help.
Sorry I can't be more specific or helpful this time.

Its underneath, almost right below the driver's right foot on the inside of the frame rail. Right where the exhaust manifold flange is.

This might be one of those things we all need to check periodically.
Update: So crawled under my E2fiddy's and both those bibs, skirts, aprons etc etc don't seem to have suffered that same fate. Between the rather large distance to the exhaust manifold and such plus the general nature or appearance of the connector unless something VERY wrong happened there's no real reason heat or high amp draw would cause what we're seeing.
If there are any signs of past exhaust work I'd chalk it up to someone getting a bit too close with a torch etc. I'll post a few photos shortly---I don't believe you have a lot to worry about at this point MCM.
Now if you really wanna see something of slightly more concern---check this out:
That bundle is caught between the radiator overflow bottle and cowl panel. While not horribly chaffed or in danger of catastrophic failure its something to address. I did this as a temporary fix, still holding after a full year or so:
That's nothing more than a hunk of plastic between the installed and secured bottle and the wire bundle---better safe than sorry.
Anyway HTH.
