Learn something new every day, never heard of that system. What kind of 5er is that, executive suite?
My phone autocorrected. It's a elite suite. It's a 2 bedroom 2 bath. They are ditching the front bath and moving the kitchen to its spot. The back bedroom will be a full bath with walk in closet.
The truck and just trailer where 16K, I weighted them at work.
I pulled my fan off years ago, with the 5 speed and 3:55 gear it started to get warm. 4th gear you could keep the pyro in the green at least. It was a fun 30 miles.
OP, last year I pulled this at 18.5K (yes, Geo is hooked up) from AZ to MI. This year I will pull about 17K with what's in my signature (no Geo this time). When I'm on these hard pulls I'm in second gear at 3K rpm's. Some pulls can be several miles like this. I make my wife mad at me because I will hit the bottom of the hill at 80mph. Gets you up the hill more before your gutting it out! This will be my 11th year doing this and so far I haven't seen any pistons or chucks of engine in my mirrors, knock on wood, LOL
I have done this as well towing our trailer and stock trailers. I am convinced the sweet spot with 4.10s is 70-75 mph, while pulling a grade with a load requires 2800-3000 rpms depending on driving style. Trust me, this engine can take it. I think it probably even likes it.
What these guys (Todd, Thomas, Glenn, Mike) holds true. I had to learn it as well.

Same here. About 6200 # of 26' travel trailer. Any thing under 2200 rpm with any grade or wind and EGT's creep up. For me with 3.55 it liked 70-75 cruising in OD and about 60 with OD off. Let it sing. I actually pulled off the road, climbed under the hood in 32 deg rain, posted a frantic thread here, and nearly cancel Christmas to turn back for home. All before I learns RPM are my friend.

I have to agree! Ten + years ago on here it wasn't really talked about much. I was out there hauling my 5th wheel grinding my teeth up hills because I was letting it rip and worried about it falling apart. Over time I have become more comfortable with the high rpm's. I'm on my third PS motor and they have all stood the test of time. To clarify, they all still run!
I will say, however, that I was surprised to find that my little ole Explorer will get the trailer off of a light, and up a freeway entrance ramp better than the PS. It is an eco-boost, but I really never expected a 3.5L V6 gas motor to give a 7.3L diesel any competition.

Speaking of the EcoBoost, I had one try to race me onto the freeway yesterday. Not only did I leave them behind, but when accelerated past me at first, his tailpipe had big evidence of burning oil and it sounded crappy. I was pleased to say the least.
Also, how much did that trailer weigh? It might be quicker off the line, but run it up a long grade and I am guessing the 7.3 will pull away.

Trailer is about 6200 pounds. It kind of makes sense on paper. The EcoBoost is about 60% more horsepower with only about 15% less torque. Plus it has two extra gears and another 2000 RPMs on the tach. The little V6 is perfectly content to drop down to 3rd or 4th gear and Buzz along at 4000 RPM and just pull It's heart out. My Explorer runs a 14 second quarter mile bone stock. My 7.3 has a 3 inch downpipe 6637 filter mod, and a TS 6 position chip. Even with those mods there is no way that truck is going to outrun this Explorer. And that's not trash-talking I own them both. I have noticed that the EcoBoost will blow a little black and when I'm on it hard and the exhaust tips stay dark. I'm pretty sure the motor runs rich
