New to me 01 Excursion v10 GEM issues.

I've recently acquired an 01 Excursion (cheap) with a couple of issues that I believe are related to a previously replaced GEM that may not have been properly programmed. Any help relating these issues to the GEM (or not) would be much appreciated. I contacted my "local" Ford dealer 30 miles from here and they quoted $119 for an hour of shop time to lookup my VIN and reprogram the GEM with the original options.

What it is:
2001 Limited Excursion
4x4
V10

What is not working:

I've owned 2 first gen Expeditions in the last 3 years so I'm familiar with several of the quirks of Ford trucks already.

So are you thinking the GEM that was installed came out of a truck that had none of the items you listed?

Seems most would have seat belt minder and key chime.

Maybe the GEM installed was used and faulty too???

That would be my guess, as far as the door chime it could be broken/removed in some other way. I'm trying to figure out what is related to the GEM and what has no relation to it. I'm not even sure if the AC is tied to the GEM or not.

It could be faulty, no way of telling at the moment. I'm hoping the programming is just wrong and it can be corrected by the dealer.

The door chime had been disabled, I fixed that and it appears to be working now.
I manually triggered the 4x4 from the relays in the engine bay. I can hear the motor on the transfer case moving.

I was able to use Forscan to look at the programming on the GEM module, the 4x4 was set to manual engage. Resetting it to electronic restored the function of the 4x4 selector switch on the dash. Also a DTC was flagged for the over head console / trip info.

Does anyone know where to get an as-built data sheet so I can restore the rest of the missing functions? I'm going to head over to the local dealer this week to see what they say/can do.

See if the FordEtis link in this post will get you the as built data you need.

Ford appears to have locked out any as-built data from their public accessible web sites. Off to the Ford dealer I go...

Really? I just ran my VIN through that linked to FordEtis site last week to get my born on date and a whole lot of build data.

Different data, I was able to pull that info as well (including all the as shipped options).

It does not include the data about how the various modules were programmed from the factory, that is the data I would need to rebuild the programming on the GEM module.

OK, now I get it. It's a little over my head but I think I understand.
                Good luck!

                Success!

I was able to have a Ford tech look up the AS-BUILT codes from my VIN. I was able to use Forscan and a generic WIFI OBD2 reader ($20) to restore my GEM features to factory spec thus fixing:
                • Rear Wiper
                • Defrost
                • 4x4

Dome/exit lights are acting in a different manner now instead of just shutting off when I close the door.

I need to check the cruise control, it might be malfunctioning due to a brake light DTC code I found. AC is not engaging at all, need to troubleshoot.

Has the cruise recall been performed? There's a sensor thingy plugged into the brake master cylinder.
