DEF Usage over 13 1/2 Months

Def usage from Jan 31, 2015 to March 14, 2016.
Miles driven are from purchase of 395.5 to current mileage of 13,169
Filled 3.5 gals on 6/16/15, mileage was 2770.
Filled 4.0 gals on 7/10/15, mileage was 6007, 3237 miles since previous fill.
Filled 3.5 gals on 7/22/15, mileage was 7890, 1892 miles since previous fill.
Filled 4.0 gals on 8/26/15, mileage was 10825, 2926 miles since previous fill.
Filled 2.5 gals on 3/14/15, mileage was 13169, 2344 miles since previous fill. Cup or two still in DEF jug.

All fills happened after "Exhaust Fluid Range less than 500 Miles" was displayed.

Last fill was done at the end of days driving 208 miles. All highway miles on a trip that day. Pulling trailer.

At start of 3/14, saw the Exhaust Fluid Range message of 500 miles. At end of day the range message was 292 miles. Log of beginning and ending mileage was 208 miles driven that day. So trucks msg calc was correct.

I was using the ford spout (which seals the best for me) on a Walmart Super Tech container of DEF; it would not take the whole bottle of DEF. My thought was it should have taken another gal. or so.

Thought I would pass along this info.

Thanks for the info. Are you usually towing or not?

Do you use BioDiesel or additives?

Dakstar - Approximately 75% of mileage is towing; this is a best estimate.
Additives - Ford cetane or Power Service Grey bottle maybe every other fill when not towing; not a real consistent user. When towing on long trips, try to use every fill.
Fuel - Typically no 2 diesel from truck stops or stations that have a high volume of diesel sales. Try to stay away from Bio as much as is possible.

Good feedback for others to sorta predict usage.

What is your thoughts on why only 2 1/2 (actually cup or two from jug was left in jug) gallons would fill the tank with only 292 miles to empty message displaying. I bought two jugs of DEF and thought it would take 3 1/2 to 4 gals to fill.

You should easily be able to run 5,000 miles on a tank non-towing. What is your usage for general curiosity? Moderate to heavy engine load will certainly burn through some DEF but it's cheap and such a better emissions solution than older generations.

I run about 4700-5K for a full tank of DEF. Heavy towing.
Unloaded you would regen more and use less def.

Complete opposite of towing usage.

I really don't use the truck for work much at all, at least "superduty work" pull a 8000lb Rv here and there. My truck has 20k the last 10k though my usage is all most nothing to be honest. I bought 2 jugs at my dealer I can't remember how long ago still have 1 left

I got almost 9,500 miles from my first tank full of DEF. I thought that was pretty good, as it got me past the oil change interval. (My IOLM had me change at around 8,500.) Didn't tow a single mile that first tank.
