looking for a performance upgrade

I have a 2015 F 150 3.5L EB 3.55 gear.

What chip is out there that will work great with the truck and not void the warranty?

Performance chips all have the potential to void the warranty. None are warranty approved.

5 star tunes offers a power train warranty. I have no personal experience with them, but it's on their website. 5 /60 or 6 /100k.

I have the 5* tunes on my 2015 Expedition. I run the 87 octane performance/tow tune and the difference is very significant over stock. I also purchased the warranty. It's not a chip, it's a tune loaded via the ODB2 port.

If I use this tuner do I need to upgrade the air intake or exhaust to go along with it?

So.... it's a chip

Anything you do to change power management will void the motor portion of the warranty at the very least. Of course most peoples main use of the warranty is things like the radio cluster and other electronics that would likely still be covered without question. IMO just put it in sport mode and enjoy it stock. Why? Because the biggest easy performance gain you could get would have been 3.73 gears, and you don't have them, so whats the point in putting money into it to get it just as quick as another stock truck?

The only way it would void the warranty is if the tune was directly responsible for the malfunction. We have Ford dealerships call us everyday for tunes. Since we keep all of our tunes within ford recommended parameters we do not have any problems with our tunes. We offer the warranty because some people are warranty driven consumers. The benefit of having a programmer for your truck is that when you get any other bolt-ons the programmer will make those work better as well. If you have anymore questions feel free to give us a call and ask. We can safely wake that thing up significantly.

Kind of like giving Frankenstein an idea. The doctor gave Frankenstein a new brain (i.e. a chip). Sally gave Frankenstein an idea (i.e. a program).

Just out of curiosity did the tune improve gas mileage? and which motor are you running?

I could've sworn I replied to this, but perhaps there was a glitch in the matrix.

If something Bad happens and you go in for warranty service, how do you prove that the tuner wasn't at fault? Ford's going to check the flash counter, cancel your warranty, then it's on you. Sure, you can sue, but will you win? Has anyone successfully won this battle? (This is a legitimate question... I'm not trying to be tuner-negative at all).

Don't get me wrong... I'd love to tune mine. Extra power would be nice, but fixing the throttle mapping and transmission shift points would be my primary focus.

Yes a close friend of mine is a retired Ford Tech and he said when they hook up a vehicle that has has a tuner on it the computer will put a big red box up basically saying the pcm has been tampered with. Some techs would flag the vehicle immediately to Ford and void your warranty and some techs like himself would diagnose the issue and if the tuner had nothing to do with it then continue on w/ the warranty and service. It all depends on the dealer and the tech you get.
I really really want to get the 5star tuning for mine....just not sure I can swallow the 60k I just spent on the truck if I were to have an issue.

It's not a chip, the 5* tune(s) are typically loaded into a handheld SCT device from your PC. You then plug the SCT into the vehicle's OBD2 port and download the tune. When complete, the SCT is unplugged. A chip is hardware, this is software.

Then purchase the 5* warranty, I did.

New Expeditions come with the 3.5EB motor like F150's. Not sure it improved mileage as I really don't monitor it, I suspect in theory it may if your tried.

I'm not here trying to sell 5* tunes. I've always had a number of what most would consider high-performance cars if I want to go fast, I just wanted a better performing EB motor. I am running the lowest performing tune (87 octane performance/tow) and really didn't expect much change, however I was shocked at the difference even with the mild tune. Just my experience being a 60 year old guy who has owned a string of high performance cars for 43 years. Your mileage may vary

I have had tunes from Mike at 5 Star on my 11, 13, and current 16 ecoboosts as well as my 15 Super Duty. I have not had any issues as 5 Star makes safe tunes.
