Which seat will work
I have been looking for a new or used bench seat to replace my 1986 F-250s bench seat. The foam isn't in to bad of shape but I got a quote to reupholster it and it cost 600-800. Does anyone know of a website where I can get one for cheaper than that or is it possible to put a later year model truck bench seat in a 86? Thank you for the help I am new to this forum and I tried to find this information from before but didn't find anything.

If it helps, I found these saddle blanket seat covers to be of good quality, and 2 piece design which is nice. They cost aout $100: Saddle Blanket Heavy Duty Seat Covers
If you need a whole new seat, then 80-86 will fit, and I *think* 87-92 will too (but look a little different). Someone will correct me if I'm wrong about the later years fitting.

Your bench seat was used from 1980 to 1986. Upholstery is available from LMC as well as National Parts Depot. Upholstery is subjective. If You want OEM style, look to the providers listed. If You are looking for a more custom idea to your taste, then look to a local shop.
I went with a tuck-n-roll with the"wife-n-sew." (Oh yeah....I paid dearly for that).

Any front bench seat from 1980 - 1996 will work. It should be a direct bolt-in swap without any modifications.
If you want to keep the original look for your 1986 model, the 1985-1986 models had the same style of seat, provided you stay in the same trim level. In other words, the "LARIAT" seats will be much plusher and more comfortable than the "XL" and "CUSTOM" models:
The 1987 - 1991 "LARIAT" bench seat looks totally different and they have a large flip-down armrest that is pretty cool:
I have a 1987 seat in my 1985 and I didn't have to do anything except change the upholstery and bolt it in. The 1987 - 1991 "LARIAT" models had the best looking and most comfortable seats, in my personal opinion.
The 1992 - 1996 seats have a flip-down armrest too, and some of these years even got a power lumbar support and a cupholder bolted to the front. The earlier models have adjustable headrests, and the later models have a really tall back:
