4.6 plug and piston issue PLEASE HELP!

I have a 2001 f150 with the 4.6 in it. It blew a plug out of #3 awhile back. I took into the shop and they put one of those helicoil things from Ford in and all was fine till about a week ago. It started missing on #1 and #3 so I changed the oi packs and that took the miss out of #1 but not #3. Took it into the shop to have then check out #3 and they could not get a plug socket on the plug and the truck would have to stay overnight so they could get the pug out. when I went to pick it up they told me it needs a new engine and there is no compression on #3. I thought we ll maybe its a valve so I took it home and was going to put a head on it. I borrowed a borescope from a friend and took a look down in the #3 and it looks like its been beat with a hammer and has oil on the top of the piston. What would cause this? This is a pretty MAJOR issue.
This is #3

I forgot to mention that before I took it into the shop it had a noise like a loose plug or something coming from around the #3 area and after I picked it up it was gone.

It's pretty obvious some part of the spark plug or metal work on the thread repair ended up in the cylinder.
After all metal in a confined space like that will do the damage.
You either have to have the motor rebuilt or replaced.
Poor workmanship will get you every time and becomes very costly.
As for who's fault it is at this point is a losing battle for proof.
You will have to bear the expense now since you worked on it after the fact.
A rounded plug should have never happened. No reason for it.
Good luck.

I have not done any work to it sense it left the shop. All I have done is pull the plug and take pictures. Do you think the piston was hitting the plug or something else?

If you had a noise before you took it in, the damage was already done.
Doesn't matter either way at this point.
You need a replacement engine or repair what you have..
The damage could be the piston, bent rod, bent valves, damaged head, scored cylinder wall etc..
It was not made to crunch metal.
Some areas of the piston to head space is as close as .100 inch or less.
There is no room for any metal moving around.

Good luck.

Man this one ticks me off man. This motor had no leaks, noise ext. ran great. I knew I should have put A head on it instead of letting them do this helicoil thing. The guy told me he does it all the time and it will work great don't worry about it. Now I gotta rebuild which I just can"t afford!

I just went through pretty much the same thing with my '02 5.4. I was able to find a motor with half the miles for $500. Did the swap myself, which sucked without know anything about these motors. Well worth it in my case. Good luck in whatever you choose.
