I first posted this in the regional forum, but suspect that it would get more attention here.
I will be pulling the rear-end, engine, and transmission out of a '92 F350 crew-cab and the engine and transmission from a mid-'80s F250. I'll want to scrap what's left over. Does anyone have experience with the wrecking-yards buying partial trucks? Is there enough value remaining to get the wreckers to pick them up, or will I have to deliver them?
A lot depends on local scrap prices. Right now, I think they are low and it may be tough to get someone to pick up the remains. If you are looking for some cash return, it gets even tougher.
Of course, I'm not local to your area. Best to call the scrap yards.
scrap prices are near rock-bottom, and even when they are at a more normal level, no scrap yard around here would send a truck out to pick up such a small amount. search craigslist for 'free scrap removal' and see if you get any nibbles from small operators.
current scrap prices are 2 to 3 cents per pound for cars, or between 40 and 60 dollars per ton. to get anything for them you are going to have to run them over the scales yourself, with prices this low, anyone that comes out to pick them up is probably going to charge you to take them away.
