9-inch rear axle
It's clear that I don't understand all I know: however, I know folks that know things.
I have a 53 Ford pickup project that I wish to replace the Dana44 rear axle with a 9-inch Ford rear axle. I scoured the web and learned that a 9-inch Ford rear axle from a 67 Ford F100 truck would essentially bolt in. My neighbor just happened to have such an axle....so far so good, I think. I got the axle assembly and noticed the axle tag nut was loose and the axle tag looks like: WDM-M (first Line) 3.50 6KC 301(Second Line)
Now, I became curious why axle tag was loose and decided to check the pinion revolutions vs the axle revolutions which turned out to be approximately 1.75 pinion shaft revolutions to one axle revolution. Should that not be 3.5 pinion revolutions to one axle revolution if the tag was correct?
Thanks in advance for any comments!
