I'd say the lady in the video used a new piece of metal with light oxidation. I didn't see any pits or scale. Here is a more real world test. I dipped a hinge in the Krud Kutter just for the heck of it. I knocked off the loose rust with a hand held wire brush and washed it off with water. Then dipped it for 45 minutes. In the "after" picture you can see the line where the hinge was sticking out of the solution.

It definitely works, just expect longer times than the infomercial for old steel. And longer if it can't be dipped.

I wrote a tech article on the HAMB some years ago about electrolytic rust removal using sodium carbonate and a simple DC voltage source (battery charger). Works great on small parts.
