Question 1941 Ford P/U

Hello Im new, but have seen this site and read a bunch of stuff on it. The last couple of months.

I have a 1941 Ford 1/2 ton truck. I am doing a frame up restoration. I am keeping everything close to original except the chassis will be updated with a mustangII and ford 9" rear.

My first question is:

I have read a bunch of question in regards to Vin #'s. I know where mine is, but where can I find info on decoding it.

Second is Im going with Chassis Engineering bolt on MustII IFS. Any body have any good or bad things to say about it.

Also Im going with all chrome smoothie wheels. But what is the average or normal size to go with. Also tire size. I have no clue. I want something that is very easy to get at the store in regards to tire size and wont take a huge chunk of $$ with it.

Hey acorwin- Welcome to FTE & the world of the 1941's.

BTW - nice choice!!!

We used Chassis Engineering and found that their instructions were right on. When they say you have to cut this or modify that, they were right. I don't believe many of their parts are totally "bolt-on" since this isn't a common truck, but if you follow the sheets they send with the parts you can't go wrong. We used them to fit the modern shocks, brakes, springs, tranny mount, etc. to our original frame.

As for the wheels, we haven't decided what we're going with yet. That's a while away. Need to see the finished product to determine what we want but I believe that the rears are going to need to be offset and a size larger to keep the stock height that we want. In the meantime, we have the "air 'em as you roll 'em" type of junk tires & rims just so we can still move the chassis.

Good luck on your project and if you would, create photo gallery here so we can all see your project truck.

Thanks.

First of all welcome to FTE! That sounds like you have a great project ahead of you. Hope you stick around and keep us updated.

The standard Ford truck wheel size for a while has been 15x7.5" Back then they were... 5" wide? I don't know what size of wheel they have but for 15's you can get about any diameter and width you want readily availible, and cheap.

Good luck with the project!

Clayton
