The black line is the gap where the piece of bone broke off my foot that holds the Peroneal tendon to the side of your foot.
I have an appointment with the orthopedic surgeon (bone doctor) tomorrow to find out what the extent of the damage is. Unless the doctor gives me the ok to keep working in the garage, it looks like I may be spending more time in front of the computer, and on FTE.
So, bear with me folks, if I become a PITA in your threads.
Wow Chris, sorry to hear that. I was on crutches for 6 weeks after I got a tibial plateau fracture. Crutches suck. I how you heal up fast, your truck needs you.
Ankle injuries are no joke. Follow Dr's orders to a T. I didn't. I had a severe sprain that needed a cast. I couldn't stand the itching in week 3 so I cut the cast off myself. It only took 4 years for it to feel normal. But it still clicks going up the stairs.
Ouch. Well, on the bright side yer still mobile and that is a PLUS.
Do I want to ask how it happened? YES! But only if you're divulge...
Imagine if you will....
You're in the midst of a vigorous game of ball hockey
(hockey without skates and pads, and using a ball instead of a puck, played on a gym floor or other non-ice surface),
with some other guys, and girls too!
You're doing well, you've scored two goals and could very well get a hatrick (3 goals in one game).
You're running down the gym floor to pick up a pass, and put it in the net. The other teams defenceman is also running for the same ball. As the two of you close in on the ball, he reaches for the ball with his stick. You promptly step on his stick rolling your ankle sideways, you're ankle touches the floor while you are standing upright, there is a crunching feeling, lights pop in your eyes, you're on the floor.......
This is the second time I've had this exact same injury to my left ankle, the first time was playing basket ball, 12 years ago. My wife says I'm not allowed to play sports anymore.....
Oh Man Chris. Sorry to hear this. Hope your wife is a good cook. Good cook = healing faster and better. 2X on listening to the Doc. Heal fast and well Buddy.
Following the Dr's orders is going to be the tough part. To start, I wouldn't let the Dr in the emergency department put a cast on it. She made a plaster brace and molded it to my foot and leg. So, at least I could take it off to have a bath (don't want to risk falling in the shower). Then she ordered me to use crutches and stay off my bad ankle till I saw the orthopedic surgeon tomorrow.........wellllll, I've already been hobbling around on it today. I'm hoping the Dr tomorrow will agree to let me use one of those air casts, which is a big plastic brace with inflatable air bladders that when inflated will tighten against your leg/ankle, effectively holding it in place. I have my fingers crossed......
On a side note, I am on my regular days off but I have to report for "desk duty" at work on Monday, yay!
Chris, you may consider yourself lucky to be born in the 20th Century. 100 years ago, they would have hung you by your foot, and put leaches on your forehead... Just trying to cheer you up amigo. ha ha ha... kidding aside, listen to the Doc. Best advice you can get.
Broken ankles are support for the theory that we should be on all fours. Oh, listen to your wife too... life will be simpler..
Make sure to get yourself a straw . . . so you can suck the eff up.
(BTW, didn't mean that as an a**. I got that from my son who got it from his Marine drill sargent. I love that saying and use it every chance I get.)
Had a Lisfranc fracture a couple years ago. Tried to walk it off for 6 months but it wouldn't go away and I couldn't walk correctly much less run. I went to the doc and had to put a screw in there. I see it as sometimes you have to pay to play. Just be grateful you don't have to pay too much.
Good news, kinda! The doctor today said my x-ray looked good, the break is small and not displaced, and should heal fine. The sprain is actually worse than the broken bone in my foot. He actually suggested I could use an air cast! It looks like some kind of astronaut boot, but actually holds my leg and foot very firmly. At least I can take it off to shower and sleep. Best of all, is the brace is load bearing so I can walk on it, NO crutches!!! I still have to take it "easy" but I will be back out in the garage soon, just moving a little slower, and no lifting/ carrying etc....
