Scangauge II

At the recommendation of the folks on here, I finally got a Scangauge for my 2006 CCLB F350 6.0L. I got it from FICMRepair. Will it come already set up and ready to go or? Anything I should know? Thanks.

Well........................................

According to the website, it is ready to go.

ScanGaugeII

After that it's just a matter of what four PIDS you want displayed all the time and what color backlighting you set it to.

Personally, I usually have the EOT and ECT displayed, then the volts and FICM main power. During cold weather I like the glow plug timer showing so I know not to turn on any other stuff until those cherries are snuffed.

Jr on the other hand always has the boost showing.

It's a personal preference thing. The nice thing is it's easy to change the PIDS to view other parameters but I have found it's a real distraction if you are driving and changing PIDS, about as bad as texting......and that is a real no no.

The four PID's that Mike uses here are the same I use as well while driving, and at start up.

I try to make sure I don't change PID's with people around me in other vehicles for that reason that it is very distracting.

Hi Navistarnut,

You mentioned a PID for the glow plug timer.

I never saw that one, would you please share the settings for it?

I usually have ECT, EOT, Volts and FICM Main displayed.

Will occasionally switch the FICM Main to the Fan Speed Sensor when really hot outside or towing.

I believe he is talking about watching the VLT pid, from start up (10.5v-12.2v) to when the glowplugs turn off and the volts go back to charging specs (13.5v-14.7v).

But I could be mistaken, but I have never seen a PID for the actual timer.

Hi silverbullet6oh,

That makes sense! I watch my volts that way but figured if there was a PID for a timer that would be good to have.

Thanks!

I haven't used them but here is some numbers for glow plug stuff. If it's on the CAN bus as a returned value or command scangauge can see it if you have the right coding.

Glow Plug Coil Time (Seconds)
TXD: 07E0221450
RXF: 046205140650
RXD: 3010
MTH: 000100080000
NAM: GPT

Glow Plug Light On
TXD: 07E0221667
RXF: 046225160667
RXD: 3201
MTH: 000100010000
NAM: GPL

Glow Plug Lamp On Time (Seconds)
TXD: 07E0221451
RXF: 046205140651
RXD: 3010

I use the GPT that shows a numerical value, not sure which one of the two listed above.
It's kind of odd, it's not a seconds thing on mine though. If it's really cold this number might be over 700, not so cold 300, but whatever the number it goes to zero when they shut off. I can tell it by looking at the VLT like Preston mentioned....the second they go off it shoots back up to 14 or more.
On really cold starts I would say they are on for a good two minutes, which I think is the spec I have read elsewhere.

Right, maybe the "setup" I was thinking about was choosing which PIDS I wanted displayed. It sounds like the general consensus is to use the ones that you have listed. Thanks.

I know I'm a little ignorant at this but which one would be for FICM reading?

The main one to worry about is FMP, this is your FICM main power. You like to see this one at least 47 volts, prefer 48 up to 49.5.
