Hi, I'm looking for the easiest route for installing dual batteries in my 88 F350 highboy 351w 5spd., I've got them in my 80 F250 400 4x4 but it's been so long since I made the setup i've forgotten what I used, its all going to come from the junkies if possible , I run big winch bumpers on my trucks but they have separate batteries that are stand alone for the winches and I mount them beside the winch so I don't need them in the mix. I do need to keep the window washers and filters for the mill so I'm really looking for whatever specific year and option it came in, I'm not lazy but I'm running out of time to get the 350 on the road, it's what I use to make my living and the '80 got pulled off the road for "safety issues" and if I don't get back to work soon the cats will have to go in the stew pot! Oh ya, I have got a Ford battery tray with the "wing" piece behind it not sure what was mounted on the wing , it's a leftover from some ancient project.
a driver side battery tray from a 97 to 91 ford diesel pickup will bolt in.
then you will need a positive crossover cable, and have to modify the air intake.
and it is a 88 F-350, not a "highboy"
the last "highboy" was made in 76.
Ya , well the guys at the wreckers said they consider anything with a straight axle a "highboy", in 1976 I owned a 72 and a 76 and they both looked pretty much the same as this tank, only I think even an oil burning 360 2 bbl was twice the mill that this crappy 351 smog block is, I'll bet it would be lying to say it has 100 horsepower.

Just for the sake of knowing, what makes 77's and older highboys?, this 88 has a monobeam dana 60 w/35 spline axles , same as my other 2 70's trucks, the only difference was the older ones had sealed u joint ends (that leaked about 2 days after replacing the seals) while the 88 is open , all 3 were/are 4.10 geared high pinion axles, I took off the 35's today and only lost about 11/2 inches in height, I've even still got the 4 spacer blocks from the 72 and they are exactly the same as the ones on the 88 so you can see why I am slightly confused with the name, they all work great for my business and that's what really counts I guess.
1967-1977 f250/f350 had divorced transfer cases and sat a little higher. Also if I'm not mistaken they came with D44s with larger knuckles and hubs (kinda like the 80's model dodges) I may be mistaken though on the axles.
What do you mean by monobeam? In the 70's they were straight axle leaf spring or straight axle coil and radius arm set ups.
Monobeam is what Ford calls a straight axle, on leaf springs , Dana 60/ 35 spline axles, etc., ya, I forgot about the transfer cases I the old ones being separate from the trans, I think your mind tries to forget bad memories!(I went through alot of bushings the transfer case sat on, only good old rubber in those days.)
