2001 V10- F250.. Runs rough- had the computer put on it and was coming up with P0174 codes (I think that is right)- In any case I replaced the Mass air flow sensor- checked for any vacuum leaks visually- I did not see anything obvious.... still runs like crap.... smells like gas when idling.... anything else I can check??? The check engine light went off finally (probably due to the MAF)- but it's driving me nuts- Any hoses I have not located I need to check?
also you can use starting fluid to find a vacuum leak. just spray it around the intake manifold/ any vacuum hoses, the brake booster, etc. if you hear your idle change tone at any time, that's where your leak is.
thanks for the responses- I think if it was coil or plug I would not smell gas no?
I will try the pcv hose and also the started fluid thing- I also was going to try the "smoke" test- Does anyone know where I attach the hose with the smoke coming out? I know it's supposed to be a vacuum inlet somewhere but I'm not sure where to attach it
thanks all- ugh- still happening- Replaced the MAF sensor- replaced the PCV- checked every vacuum hose I could see- Used the carb cleaner test-. I also cleaned the throttle body as much as I could. Still cannot find why she is running so sluggish- The check engine light turned off after the MAF sensor was replaced (I did disconnect battery)- then it went back on..... not sure what esle I can check
After thinking about this some more I'm guessing you have multiple plugs miss firing on the driver side (p0174 is for bank 2 running if I remember correctly)? If a cylinder isn't firing it's just an air pump into the exhaust, and if you have a functioning catalytic converter the lack of fuel smell from the exhaust is because it's burning in the cat.
