torsion spring

All,

I have a driver side door lock that stays in a dropped position due to a missing torsion spring.

I've attempted making one from a version that my local Ace had. It was way to big.

I've tried using a magnet to see if it is still in the door.

I've tried many web searches.

Anybody have any McGyver ideas here?

Here is a photo of the passenger side:

Thanks,

~bird~

Your profile says 1970 F100, is this correct?

Look at this upper parts catalog picture, give the number of the missing part. Is it 219A74?

I bet its in the bottom of the door, and removal of the door inside panel, should give access to it, unless it worked its way out a drain hole..?? I bet there is one, or more in a JY near you amigo.

The part list above doesn't even show that particular torsion spring

Part number 219A74 is way to big. This particular one has one loop in it. 219A74 is still in place.

It looks like part number 21872. Can I still order that part?

I recently purchased the truck. It looks like someone either got locked out or was breakin in. Someone drilled through the thumb press from the outside. That may have been the cause. Otherwise....well its from 1970.....

Thanks again guys.

You're looking at the wrong pic, 21872 is only shown in the lower pic for L/LN & W series BIG trucks.

As I said in post #2, look at the upper pic for F series.

Perhaps it is the little spring shown in the assembly # 21952..?? Looks to be spring in that assembly?? At least, it could be, but the illustration is not quite clean on that part.

No spring.
21952 is the clip that retains the door lock rod and the rod from the remote control to the latch. Universal "fitz-all's" are available from auto parts stores.

You can't ask for McGyver ideas. You have to come up with them. What you're asking for are McGruber ideas.

I guess its the clip i'm looking for then. It looked like a torsion spring to me. From what I can tell that is what is different from the passenger side(works perfectly) to the drivers side.

So any auto parts store eh?

No. You are talking about the coiled spring Ford only serviced with the 21812 latch. You need to do some JY hunting or buy a replacement latch.
