I took my bad *** 1969 ford f100 mudding, and the truck died while in was in a puddle! The car won't start up again, and the carb and exhaust is now blowing out white smoke. I've heard this could be the timing chain, but I was wanting more feedback from people who know lots about these trucks first before I go in and change that.
Thanks!
EDIT:the starter is cranking and it sounds like it's going to turn over, as soon as it should start it cuts out and that's when the white smoke blows out.
Take off the distributer cap and roll the engine back and forth to see how much slop there is before the rotor moves. If the balancer moves more than 1.5"-2" that could be the problem. It is not hard to change, good luck.
Have you checked the basics first? Make sure it's getting fuel and spark. All the bouncing around in the mud you could have knocked a wire loose or stirred up the gas in the tank and might of got dirt clogging the fuel lines.
