Single Rear Wheel Conversion-Need Input

Just what the title says. What got me thinking about this are a few things. Less $$ for tires and rotating, etc. Less PITA for parking and daily driving. Before you guys flame me, I will not be towing near as much. The RV is going to go to FIL for a few years to use for his retirement since we are getting into a house next month. I am just looking to simplify where I can and I am kinda tired of having a dually to be honest. I'd almost trade this truck straight up for an OBS CCSB.

So, what all is in involved? I know the front hub spacers come off. Doesn't the rear just stay the same? The fenders have to come off anyway since I managed to back into a guys tailgate at a construction site the other day. That was the other prompt for this thought process. I totalled the passenger fender. I now belong to the idiot driver's dually fender damage club. I saw in the mirror that I had cleared his truck but did not know his tailgate was down. CRUNCH!!! I guess when the fenders come off, I'd have to get the bed lined out and painted. Let me know!

Different width on the rear axle I believe, so rear axle swap would be in order. Also a bed swap would be in order too.

It would be a fair amount of work. You would almost need a donor truck.

SRW 4x2 does not sound appealing to me.

I agree with Phil, I really don't think you will like the end result. It sounds good, but whose to say down the line you wont get another 5er? Even my 3/4 ton trucks are in reality overkill for me, but I would rather have the capability and not need it than the other way around. Not trying to tell you what you should or shouldn't do, its your rig, you can do whatever you want to it.

Edit: Don't know why the smileys posted that way, seems like my browser doesn't care for them.

I will reply more later, but I thought the axles on the regular pickups were the same and narrower on the C&C?

I'm pretty sure that's just the distances between the leaf packs. C&c frame rails are narrower. But I might be totally wrong and thinking of my 76 truck.

If I look at the alignment of my truck and imagine it just being a single wheel, the single wheel lines up under the bed exactly like it's supposed to...or so it looks like.

You'd need a new axle, front hubs, and bed Byron. They are different. Axle's not a big deal. Should be able to find one of them on craigslist or the like. Bed on the other hand can be found, but the right color could be hard.

Guess I could have left the last post off! I understand your thinking though Byron, these things seem extremely big being a dually.
