I love mine as well, mileage be damned ! I barely turn the radio on around town.

Also have the upgrade wheel AND took the insulation off the CAC pipe, whoo hoo ! Smiles per mile

Why would you, or anyone else do that? Yes, it may look better, if you use the opportunity to paint it. But, it serves an important purpose. It helps insulate the air charge from picking up even more heat, from the exhaust manifold and engine block. I'd be willing to bet that under at least some conditions, a truck with that insulation removed ends up with hotter intake air, even after the intercooler, and therefor higher EGTS.

^^^ what he said , most do it because it supposedly makes the turbo sound louder, I woul just leave it alone, unless I were to paint it.

Actually you are wrong.

This is the air COMING from the turbo to the IC. The insulation is there for noise only, nothing else.

Additionally I did PC it too.

Yes, I know this is the turbo outlet to IC inlet pipe. A temperature increase of air into the IC will result in a temperature increase of the air coming out, assuming the IC does not have any excess cooling capacity. Granted, under light load highway cruising, in mild weather, it may not matter. The IC probably does have plenty of excess cooling capacity under those conditions. But, under a heavy load and/or at slower speeds (less airflow over the IC fins), that may not be the case. It may be "saturated"; which would result in the above hotter in= hotter out scenario.

For sure anything under about 20mph it may have some heating effect, but by the time ya get rollin more than that, that air is only in the tube for a couple milliseconds. No biggie.
(that being said, I left mine alone!)
Also, if ya do the zoodad mod, you're getting fresh cold air all the time, so even less issue.

Even my wife digs the sound of my AFE intake while on the throttle.
She actually hears it more than me, thanks to too many Ted Nugent, Led Zep, and other concerts where the music was turned to 11...

Thats 'ol Darth Vader talking to you son...

As for the intercooler insulation, it is a very minor issue if at all. The "99 trucks came from the factory without it. They pull a load fine. Having said that, I never took mine off. I like the skin on my hands the way it is, thank you very much.

I love mine after having them powder coated. Having the foil removed and adding a WW2 really makes that sucker whistle
