2003 6.0 HPOP pressure test

low power / hot stall no start / Low ICP pressure

Couple things I want to test before going after the pump.

Air pressure test and inspect IPR

I've searched quit a bit and just want to make sure can do pressure test properly.

1. on the 03 the ICP port is in the back. Applying air to the port and and commanding IPR
closed is the proper way? Or is there a port in the oil rails on each side that I should be connecting to?

2. Can you test pumps ability by connecting air to the IPR and looking for bubbles in the
oil filter housing?

Or.... should I pull the IPR first and visually inspect before doing the pressure test.

Just trying to set things up.

Any feedback appreciated.

Put the air in the ICP port, command IPR..........gurgle gurgle most likely is what you will hear. Surprise! You need a new HPOP.

I would double check and listen under the valve covers. Easy on passenger side, watch and listen at the oil fill cap. Drivers side, can do at the CCV port. You will hear slight noise that is feedback, if it's really noisy then pull covers and check oil rails and top injector seals. You can put air in the oil rails, it's the same fitting as the ICP but it ends up making things more confusing for most folks. ICP is a realy PITA on these early builds, you might be better off going in from the top, however I had the turbo out.

More often than not that area will be ok, rather it's the pump only.

Get the good pump.....Adrenaline. Same warranty as Ford, not rebuilt, and you won't be rolling the dice you have a good pump out of the box.

No I am not a paid actor, I have a Ford pump but would have gone Adrenaline route had I known better at the time.

If your going to pull the IPR anyway... you could test thru that port. Remove oil cap and filter... listen for air and BAM... new HPOP is coming home!

As Mike said, thru the ICP, command the IPR shut or thru the IPR. Any air is a leak and air thru the oil filter is an HPOP. The 03' doesn't have stand pipes, dummy plugs or STC fitting that the 05 and ^ has issues with. That leaves injector nipple cups, top o-rings and why you listen inside the valve covers or an HPOP.

Pretty simple really on the 03-04... loss of pressure is normally a weak/failing HPOP.
