First off we need to know what engine you have in the truck? I'm going to assume it's the 6.0 liter diesel? If so you'll need to bleed all the air out of the fuel system, which can be a bit of a pain. I'm not exactly sure how to do this on a 6.0 liter so hopefully someone that is chimes in.

Negative on that. If it is a 6.0L diesel, one or at most two key cycles should get the vehicle started once fuel is added. If this were an F-Series with the 6.4L or 6.7L on the other hand, it would be a different story. Those 7.3L and 6.0L engines are a little more forgiving for instances like this than the newer ones (or any other diesel employing common rail injection for that matter).
But let's first let the OP chime in with more information before we go any deeper.

Just turn the key to ON and listen to the pump run. It will stop after 20-30 seconds, then turn the key back to OFF and back to ON again and let the pump run again until it shuts off. Twice is usually enough but you might as well do it again for good measure. The bowl will be full and it should start.
If it doesn't start, open the bowl-drain valve and you'll probably hear and see air escape, close the valve and cycle the pump a few times again it should start then.
Running low or out of fuel on a 6 liter can also cause clogged filters.
When it runs low the fuel intake can clog with debris from inside the tank.
If you can't get it started you might need to drop the tank and check
Had filters on mine changed in Kansas a few years back, watch the filter seals if you had them out. 4 hours to get it started. They ordered a new filter and seal 3 cycles with the key an undugaduga, off I go.
