Question '42 bed

First off, I am a new member and this is a great site.

I have recently found a 1942 Frod pickup. The truck is complete except for the fenders on the bed. There are not markings on the sides of the bed that would indicate that there ever was fenders attached. Is it possible that there were no fenders on this truck? If there were fenders, how hard are replacements to find? Any information on this truck would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again.

First of all, welcome to FTE! I hope that you find it usefull and that you stick around with us and keep us unformed of your progress.

So what your saying is that this is that there are no bolts or anything on the bed? Are the bed sides new? Ford didn't have a platform, that I'm aware of, that didn't have the fenders but had the bed. Someone might have taken them off and welded the holes shut. That's just very peculiar.

Thanks for the reply 41Clay. I haven't gotten to pick the truck up yet, so I haven't seen the bed rails first hand. They may have just taken off the fenders and welded the holes. They must have done a good job. Do you know of any place that I would be able to get fenders?

Thanks again.

You can find them on Ebay sometimes, Mac's has them www.macsautoparts.com, and you may try motor haven. I think that the '48-'50 rear fenders would look alot better on them.

I haven't seen any steel rear fender for the '42-47 Ford trucks. There are fiberglass repro's available, check aplace called The Fairlane company. I think Mac's Antique auto may also have them. I've never personally used fiberglass body parts, so I can't vouch for the quality on any. The '48-50 rear fenders would look nice. I have one of my '46's set up with a '51 bed and rear fenders. I've never seen any body combos available w/o rear fenders on a pickup box. Maybe they were removed and the holes welded, as mentined.
