6.8 to 7.3 need help

Hi guys I'm new to this site and have a few questions?.. sorry if this has already been posted i don't know how to really navigate around yet and not even sure if this is being posted in the right spot.

I have a 96 7.3 doner van.
And I plan to swap the motor into my 99 f350 that has a 6.8 v10 Gas motor in it.

First question. Will my 4r100 tranny bolt up to it.?

Second question. Can I use any of the wiring from the van to my truck.?

No the 4R100 will not bolt up. You need one specific to the 7.3 diesel motor. Wiring I have no answer for. Welcome to the forum.

After doing some more research I found out why it will not fit. Reason being they made 3 types of 4r100 transmissions one being Gas the other being diesel.

This really sucks because I just had my gas 4r100 rebuilt. Witch leads to my next question...
My gas 4r100 is 4x4 and the e4od transmission in the van is 4x2 can I just swap the tail housing to make the e4od 4x4.?

Excuse me if I sound not well versed in the matters.

And thanks for the comments they really do help alot. They are greatly appreciated.

Maybe Mark K. can shime in, in regards of tail housing your going to need to swap out the output shaft and thats complete disassembly of trans, not sure if the E4od output shaft is the same as the 4r100.
Obious question but why are you wanting this swap? That v10 has allot of potential once you throw a blower on it.

Don't get me wrong my v10 has been a great runner I want the fuel economy and the over all longevity of the 7.3 diesel motor. And why I'm doing the swap into my truck instead of buying a diesel is because I have thousands of dollars into the lift and suspension

Nice looking truck, is that an e36 with mesh BBS wheels? Looks nice I used to own an e21 with the same BBS mesh wheels only that they were 15".
Try looking for a donor truck, that way you wont have to worry of needing parts for when you do the swap.

Its a e46 and there 18 inch wheels I think I'm just going to swap the shafts then all I need is the wiring harness does that sound correct.?

What's wrong with the gas motor and what are you seeing for mpg? If in reading this correctly you're wanting to spend thousands or already have to save a couple cents and the pump.... ? Hmmm

I get 300 miles to a tank hauling a trailer on the highway with the tune that's on the motor now Like I said I'm going for the longevity of the diesel motor and where I live diesel is almost a dollar cheaper then premium fuel.

Having owned both, I wouldn't consider a 99 V10 to a 96 7.3 and upgrade.

There's no longevity issues with a V10, I've never worked on a vehicle so much until I got my 7.3. When people say they last forever they are mostly talking about the internal rotating assembly, all the external parts and accessories are more of a pain than any vehicle I've ever owned. Ask any 7.3 owner how many spare parts he's got behind his seat to prove that point.

You have a fresh 4R100 and that sounds like a lot of work for a few MPG's.

But if you must have a diesel, at least intercool that 96' during the swap.

If you're going for reliability the 2V V10 is known for going 300+k easily with normal maintenance, if you want power a 96 7.3 is going to be a step down and cost a lot of money to swap for literally no advantage in my opinion. If you are interested in more power look into the 00+ PI heads for the V10 and if you're dead set on a diesel look at something in the same year or newer engine for a swap.

I appreciate the comments gentleman.
My v10 is a great motor no issues what so ever!!! Knock on wood... I am dead set on a diesel swap though. I plan to keep the v10 just for the hell of it. Maybe swap it is to the doner truck. But more or less i do plan to intercool the 96 with all new gaskets and other miscellaneous parts. I'm looking for some nice 2000 an up heads. Also ATS turbo housing wheel and waist gate.is there anything else you can throw at me that would be a decent upgrade for the money??? I do plan to keep stock internals the entire time please keep that in mind. Thanks again.

Pick a different engine. I promise you won't be impressed vs your V10
