have an interesting problem with a 99 power stroke, rebuilt an engine to have an easy swap.after installation of engine no start determined it was cps went to local autozone and installed new cps, still no go found a black one from an older engine 97? engine started and ran ok,not as well as it should, blamed it on the new style injectors and hydra programmer. went out and bought a cps for a 96 which is much larger in diameter than the one that should be in engine. the issues i have now stalls during a decel and coming to a stop.and the most curious is when wet stalls during all decels and rolling stops.need some help maybe the harness?wrong style injectors?(went from split shot to single shop style.
Sounds like you were close with the black one. My new motor took a lot of miles before it ran right. Like 500 or so. Mine was a complete new build, and although ran good after 500 miles, it was almost until it was broken in before it really ran well. I also notice when I change tunes, it takes about 150miles for the truck to run perfect again on that tune. ITs like the PCM needs to re learn some stuff before it performs perfectly. I don't have a chip though, I have the programmer and full flash on changes. Also, the single shots are much louder and don't idle too smooth at low pressure. My first stock tune was a 487 psi in gear stopped. It was quieter but surged and didn't like it like the split shots do. I now run 587, and its perfect, but loud cold, and idling. I also noticed the old split shots are more of a ticky sound when they fire, and the singles sound like a mig welder crackle. So noticeably different and noisier. Live tuning can help some. But with power comes noise. lol
thanks for the input the trucks runs great when running som ford tech that works with me now said before you get crazy chasing issues that could come a simple oil change. he suggests use syntectic it works well
Aftermarket CPS units from the box stores (non-Motorcraft units) are notorious for being unreliable, sometimes right out of the box.
The shut off on decel is exactly what I just went through. Get a Motorocraft CPS for the correct year model and run with it. From what I've read, the performance characteristics of some of the older years, if I recall correctly, do not always match up with your engine's needs, especially since you've plugged in the Hydra.
