Catalytic converter question

Hi all. I have a 2000 F250 super duty with the 6.8L and I'm replacing the whole exhaust system. Well after looking at the catalytic converter it needs replacing as well. Kinda shocked at what the bolt on models cost and the universal is looking like my route. Now I'm guessing that it's welded on but it question is this. Is the stock flange cut off or is it welded in a junction after the flange. Right now I'm just researching what's required and I apologize if this has already been answered. My phone doesn't surf very well. Thanks.

Got one on ebay for my 99 just bolts on.. yours may be different.

My cat (Dynatech universal) is welded on aft of the flange. There is few inches of original pipe between the new cat and flange.

My aftermarket cat i welded on after the flange. There is almost 12" of pipe after the flange
