Hey, I have a 2001 F-250 SD 7.3L 6 speed with 160,000 miles on it. I noticed it has a catalytic converter on it and the original exhaust pipe. I was wondering with that amount of miles if the converter could be getting somewhat stopped up. I was thinking of going to 4in pipe and leaving out the converter....anyone know why there's one on that truck and if its needed to stay on? Thanks
All the early 1999's had cats and then it was only the manual tranny trucks thru the end of 7.3 production. It is technically a cat but it's really a soot trap so you it could be getting kind of restrictive etc. We see this pretty often inthe 1994-97 trucks as the cat is smaller and clogs up quicker. The MBRP and AFE systems we sell eliminate the cat on all 7.3's so it'll bolt right on and do what you need. Call us if you have any questions etc.
Thanks for the info. I think i'm going to replace the system and go w/ 4 in and w/o the converter or muffler. Do you know from hearing trucks without the muffler if it sounds good?
