My 79 f250 400 np435 3.73 gears, the trailer is around 5k and the white f250 also about 5 the 400 did awsome pulling it. Anyone else got a nice old ford they use to pull a lot? This is my ranch truck and daily driver
Mine isn't setup for pulling yet, but once I get a little farther along mine will be equipped with both receiver and 5th wheel hitches along with sway bars and an electronic brake controller, and a 7 pin light connector.
I'm glad to hear you like the 400, I still haven't put any miles on my truck since buying it last Fall, it came with a (not stock) 400/c6
I'm also planning on running heavy gauge battery leads to the front and rear for quick disconnect winch or jumper cable hook ups.
I'm building it as my daily driver but also as a vintage puller for this camper trailer that I picked up last summer.
Mark Lopes---nice pair of trucks. Neat how the older sibling is doing the pulling.
Thanks bud the white one doesn't run but it's a 351w auto I should hopefully get it running soon I have found that the 70s trucks make the bed work trucks

Awsome truck the 400 is a great engine on the bottom end soon I'll get a gooseneck hitch for this truck and hopefully a 20ft stock trailer
My '78/F250/400 is very happy towing. It handled a 3800 lb mini excavator on a tandem trailer without strain. It also pulled this trailer around frozen farm fields all day picking up tornado debris which the little tractor helped load.

Hi Mark - are you sure that trailer weighs 5000lbs?
In looking at it, I am guessing more like 2500 max.
Looks like an 16' flat deck and probably 7000 lbs rating?
Either way...I always like to see old rigs still working and yours looks great.
Here is a pic of my old 79 towing a 2300lb trailer (10,400 GVWR) and 7k lbs worth of 78 supercab dump truck with snow plow...so about 9300 lbs.
It handled it better than I expected...especially considering that gray truck is on 37's and had 3.55 gears.
Thanks bud yes the trailer is actually a 16,000lb trailer the truck starts squating with just the trailers lol I think it's time I get over loads beautiful truck you got there by the way. What engine you got in it?
